Vangelis – Juno to Jupiter (2021)

new album by Greek composer Vangelis "Juno to Jupiter" was released on September 24, 2021. The 18-track release is inspired by NASA's mission to Jupiter via the Juno space probe. The album features sounds recorded during the launch of the probe on Earth before it set off on its 500 million kilometers journey and entered Jupiter's orbit on July 5, 2016.

Juno to Jupiter combines acoustic and electronic sound worlds, with synthesizers, brass riffs and strings that create a sense of the mystery of life beyond our planet.

This is not the first time that Vangelis has reunited science and music in his works. He previously wrote the choral symphony Mythodea, dedicated to NASA's 2001 mission to Mars. He also collaborated with the European Space Agency on his album "Rosetta" in honor of the completion of the Rosetta mission of the first ever comet landing.

In gratitude for his work over the years to support and advance science, NASA presented Vangelis with a medal of merit to society, and the Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union named asteroid 6354, located between Jupiter and Mars, "Vangelis" in his honor.

The recording includes the soprano of opera singer Angela Gheorghiu, as well as the voices of scientists who participated in the mission, courtesy of NASA.
