2016 Cumberland Gap National Historic Park 5 oz Silver

The second release in the 2016 America the Beautiful silver coin series is the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park 5 oz Silver Coin. Like previous releases, the Cumberland Gap ATB consists of five troy ounces of .999 fine silver, and is minted at West Point by the US Mint. Because these silver coins are backed by the US government, recognized as legal tender, and manufactured with strict production quality and metal purity standards, each silver ATB may be included in a precious metals IRA.

The America the Beautiful silver coin series celebrates some of North America’s greatest natural treasures. There are five designs released each year.

The Cumberland Gap ATB features a frontiersman holding a musket, and gazing over the Cumberland Gap. The reverse also features the inscriptions “CUMBERLAND GAP”, “KENTUCKY”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “2016”, and “FIRST DOORWAY TO THE WEST”.

The Cumberland Gap is a narrow passage in the Appalachian Mountains between Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. Long used by the Native Americans, the Cumberland Gap became a key passageway for westward expansion.

The Cumberland Gap National Historical Park covers 20,508 acres, and hosts nearly a million visitors each year.
