The Blue Ridge Parkway
Spanning a length of more than 450 miles through North Carolina and Virginia, the Blue Ridge parkway is one of the most scenic highways in the country. Given its name some time after construction began in 1936, this historic span of roadway gives those who drive it a breathtaking view of the Appalachian Mountains in a way they have never experienced before.
The highway was completed in 1987, which makes this the longest span of time from the beginning of a National Parks project to the end of the project. it is also the longest linear area of land covered by the park system.
Bullion Issue America the Beautiful Coins
This coin was issued by the United States Mint at Philadelphia as a compliment to the quarter issued at about the same time bearing the same design. The 3-inch circumference of this beautiful coin allows the viewer to see the details in a way that quarters cannot provide. These coins come in two different versions; the bullion issue which is as-struck with a mint-state surface and without a mint mark noting where the coin was made. The 'collectors edition' coins (also known as vapor blasted) have a special surface treatment, are more satiny in appearance, and are issued a little later than their corresponding bullion issue coin.
